Coastal Guest Bath Remodel

I’m over the moon that I’m finally able to sit down and write about our Coastal Guest Bath Remodel! This DIY project was our first in the new house and it was definitely a labor of love!

There was a lot of firsts for us DIY’ers (mostly me) but I learned so much from a design and construction standpoint! This project gave me so much confidence in myself, what I’m capable of, and that anyone has the ability to create a beautiful space with time and perseverance!

Our biggest feat was the step in shower. Chris and I had never attempted it but I knew it would be worth it in the end. Not going to lie, it took two attempts with the shower slope and a lot of sweat and tears with laying the tile! However, seeing the shower now, I’m so glad we were persistent (and had some help from my parents).

The Before

Our house was built back in 2005 and has those major builder’s grade vibes! This bathroom had the most generic floor tile, floral shower wall tiles, no natural light, and felt small.

My first idea was to add a window to let in some much needed natural light. Since we couldn’t change the size of the bathroom, I knew that adding the most natural light and bright colors were the best way to make the room feel open.

We gutted the entire bathroom. The ceiling, the sheet rock, the works! We then added shiplap to the walls and ceiling, and added some gorgeous travertine floor tile.

After patching the nail holes, sanding, and repainting the shiplap, we tackled the step in shower. We used matte white hexagon tiles for the two walls and the floor with white grout.

I didn’t want this coastal guest bath remodel to be a generic white farmhouse bathroom, so I decided to put in a gorgeous blue accent wall for some color and to make the window stand out.

The After

We are SO happy with how our bathroom turned out in the end! I just love how bright it is and all the little coastal details it has! These cast iron boat cleats make the cutest towel hooks and still can’t believe they were only $15!

Of course, now I’m thinking about taking this bathroom mirror and decking it out in some gorgeous oyster shells to complete the look! Make sure to let me know in the comments on your thoughts of our first home project!
