What You’ll Need To Make a Strawberry Basil Spritz

for one serving

  • 2 oz gin
  • 1.5 oz strawberry basil syrup
  • 3/4 oz lemon juice
  • 3/4 elderflower liqueur
  • 6 oz sparkling water or club soda

How To Make It

Most spritz call for Prosecco as part of the equation. However, for this special spritz, I really wanted to let the flavors of the strawberries and basil shine through with the floral notes of the elderflower and gin. Especially with the hot summer weather, I was wanting to make a cocktail that was as refreshing as possible! Now, if you wish to add Prosecco (by all means, do so!), I would do 4 oz and then add 1 oz of sparkling/club soda.

In a chilled spritz glass filled with ice, add all the ingredients and stir with a bar spoon until well mixed. Garnish with a sprig of basil and a strawberry slice and enjoy!

Strawberry Basil Syrup Recipe

Homemade simple syrups are one of my favorite ways to add fresh seasonal flavors to my favorite cocktails! They only take about 15 minutes or so to make and are incredibly easy for mixing (no need for muddling).

  • 1 cup of fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup of roughly chopped basil leaves
  • 3/4 cup of honey

In a sauté pan, add all the ingredients and cook on the stovetop on medium heat. Stir occasionally and wait for the honey to melt and for the syrup to start simmering. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes or so until the strawberries are cooked down and the basil is wilted. We want all of these flavors to be released through the cooking process so we have the most flavorful strawberry basil simple syrup.

Set the pan to the side and let the syrup cool for about 15 minutes before the next step.

Carefully strain out the strawberries and basil, and pour the strawberry basil simple syrup into a syrup bottle. These ones from Crew are my absolute favorite because I can easily go from pouring to storing in the same bottle!

This simple syrup can be kept in the fridge and lasts up to three weeks.
