Blueberry Basil Margarita

It’s currently blueberry season here in Florida and this Blueberry Basil Margarita is the perfect cocktail to kick off the summer season! There’s nothing like freshly picked in season blueberries! I’m so lucky to live close by so many u-pick farms here in the Sunshine state! Chris and I live about 30 minutes from a local blueberry farm that’s just starting to add strawberries and blackberries to their growing season! So we’re super excited to add those days to our weekend calendar!

Now that the warm weather is here to stay, basil is starting to grow like crazy. Basil is mostly known for being used in Italian dishes but I absolutely LOVE it for cocktails! From muddling with fresh fruit for the perfect sip or to make as a simple syrup, there’s endless ways to enjoy one of my all time favorite herbs!

How To Make It

With the summer months, I love being in the mentality of “the simpler, the better”. Something with the heat just makes you want to accomplish the most you can as efficiently as possible (or the least amount of dishes). So with this recipe, I like to do everything in the cocktail glass.

Since we’re muddling in the glass, I like to use one that’s not very deep and an easy surface to muddle on. These hammered drinking glasses are one of my absolute favorites because of their versatility and I love the vintage hammered look.

If you love a salt rim on your margarita glass, we’ll start with this step. Wet the rim of a glass with a lime and dip onto a plate filled with kosher salt and lime zest. Roll around until the entire rim is covered with the mixture.

Then, add the first six ingredients and muddle until the blueberries are smashed and the basil is well muddled. Fill your margarita with ice and garnish the top with extra blueberries and a lime wedge.

Making For a Crowd?

If you’re wanting to make this Blueberry Basil Margarita for a crowd, I highly suggest using a blender. It’s no fun muddling cocktails for a crowd, believe me. I’ve made that mistake once and vowed never again. This recipe can be doubled, tripled, or whatever serving amount you need.

Just toss everything in, blend, and pour into a pitcher or glass dispenser. You could also make a salt rim station where guests can make their own salt rims with either lime, honey, agave, or even tajin!

Now I just have to think of more recipes to use up the rest of these blueberries…

Cheers Y’all,
